The 1975 is an english indie rock band from Manchester, England.
The group consists of Matthew Healy (vocals, guitar), Adam Hann (guitar), George Daniel (drums, backing vocals) and Ross MacDonald (bass).
In this text I’ll be pointing out facts about them, how it worked out for them as a band, and their experiences since the beginning.
Well, back to the time they first met, around nine or ten years ago, they weren’t close friends, but they had always seen each other in some band contests during high school. They thought that maybe gathering together could be a good thing, so that’s what they did and they formed the band.
After, they had to have a place to play their instruments and make music, and they found it. Thus, the local of rehearsal became very important to them, it was a kind of house that they always had, “that was our little world that we could go to”, said once George. It was the nucleus of everything, “it was where we rehearsed, where we ate, where we slept, where we partied. And all of the songs were kind of the stuffs that happened in that room”, said once Matthew.
So, at the beginning on rehearsals, they started to play “strange” cover songs like Ghost Busters. Strange and eclectic sets that helped them find their style.
The band got inspired because of the songs their parents used to listen to, for example, Peter Gabriel, Phil Collins and, for Matty, the vocalist, Michael Jackson’s were the best. In the end, they came up with the creating of their own music, finding who they really were, and what type of message and style they could show up with. Once they started it, they didn’t want to stop anymore. More and more ideas and excitement about the new band came everyday.
The first songs that they wrote, like “Robbers” and “Sex”, became the real songs of the actual The 1975. Written in 2008, these songs suffered some changes till they get how they are now.
The band only used to upload material on myspace. They didn’t even have real pictures of them. And then, some girl found the page and made contact with the person who is their current manager now. He said when they first met that the band would be one of the biggest bands on the world one day, so they started to work harder on it, and now, what seemed to be just high schooled teenagers messing around with their instruments, became a group followed by a crowd, not so huge yet, but they’ve got something special that’s making people fall in love with their songs, charisma, style and kind of music.
Their debut album was released in 2013, it has 16 songs in the standard edition, and 39 songs included in the deluxe edition. It has a mix of types of songs like singles, instrumental and also remixes, which were released before in separated EPs, actually to be exact there are four EPs called “Facedown”, “Sex”, “Music for Cars” and “IV”, so the fans could follow this bunch of songs thrown in front of them before the big album come out.
They have now an UK number #1 album, sold out shows around the world, and have shared the same stages of bands like Rolling Stones.
